Unstable Weather Forecasted for Jamaica as Flash Flood Watch is Issued

KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service) has announced that a broad trough of disturbed weather over the western Caribbean is set to bring unstable weather conditions to the island in the coming days. This system, currently situated southwest of Jamaica, is expected to lead to periods of showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be heavy.

As a precaution, a flash flood watch has been implemented for low-lying and flood-prone regions, including St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St James, and Trelawny. This watch is effective until 5:00 PM on Monday.

The forecast indicates that showers and thunderstorms will particularly impact southern and northwestern parishes starting Monday and lasting through the middle of the week. Residents in these areas should prepare for possible heavy rainfall and the risk of localized flooding.

Additionally, strong gusty winds are anticipated, especially in southern parishes and offshore marine areas. The Met Service has advised fishers and other marine operators to take necessary precautions due to deteriorating sea conditions caused by the thunderstorms and gusty winds.

The Meteorological Service remains vigilant in monitoring this weather system and will provide updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and exercise caution during this period of unstable weather.
