KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service) has issued a warning regarding unstable weather conditions expected to impact the island over the coming days. This is due to a broad trough of disturbed weather currently situated southwest of Jamaica, which is anticipated to bring showers and thunderstorms to various regions.
A flash flood watch has been put in place for low-lying and flood-prone areas in several parishes, including St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St James, and Trelawny. This watch is effective until 5:00 PM on Monday.
The forecast indicates that showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be heavy, are likely to affect many areas, particularly southern and northwestern parishes, starting Monday and continuing through the middle of the week. Additionally, strong gusty winds are expected to impact southern parishes and offshore marine zones.
The Met Service advises fishers and other marine interests to exercise caution, as sea conditions are expected to worsen due to the anticipated thunderstorms and strong winds.
The Met Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Residents are urged to stay informed and take precautions to ensure their safety during this period of unstable weather.
