Kamala Harris Calls for Another Debate with Donald Trump Ahead of 2024 Election

WASHINGTON, United States (AFP) — In a bold move leading up to the 2024 presidential election, Vice President Kamala Harris has challenged former President Donald Trump to participate in another debate. Her campaign announced that Harris has accepted an invitation from CNN to host the event on October 23.

“Vice President Harris is eager for the chance to share the stage with Donald Trump once again,” stated campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon. “The American people deserve the opportunity to see both candidates debate before they make their voting decisions.”

Trump has participated in two debates to date: one against President Joe Biden and another against Harris, who has now taken the lead on the Democratic ticket. While Trump’s team has previously expressed reluctance to engage with Harris again, they did not provide an immediate response to the latest invitation.

Political analysts largely viewed Harris as the victor of their last debate on September 10, which has set the stage for renewed anticipation. Meanwhile, Biden’s underwhelming debate performance against Trump in June raised concerns about his age and prompted speculation about his viability as a candidate at 81.

This dynamic creates an interesting contrast, with Trump, now 78, positioned as the oldest presidential nominee facing off against a younger Harris, who is 59. As the election season heats up, the upcoming debate is poised to play a significant role in shaping voter perceptions and decisions.
